St Osyth Priory Wedding
St Osyth Priory wedding venue in Essex is a beautiful, luxury wedding venue on the East Coast. It is a former priory that is still a Grade 2 listed building and as such it’s been renovated in a really tasteful way. I know wedding venues in old country homes can sometimes take away some of the soul of the building but I feel like it’s been really well respected here and is a great balance of old and modern.
The grounds here are incredible and you’re really spoilt for choice if you love the outdoors. You have the lawn or courtyard area out the back, surrounded by some amazing old buildings. Out the front is the deer park and large open area with woodland and then to the side is the old chapel and the sunken garden, wisteria walk and a rose garden. It’s a real fairy-tale setting. It was definitely giving me all the bookish, English novel vibes.
Inside there’s accommodation in the main building and gatehouse. As this was a family home it has a very welcoming feel, including a great kitchen and there’s lots of room for you and your guests to stay which I always think is a huge win.
In the main building there’s a large room with a bar and log burner downstairs with views over the deer park. And upstairs there’s the banquet room with the most amazing ornate ceilings and doors. The views out of the huge windows here are magic and really adds a sense of grandeur. You can use either room for your ceremony although I have to say, I think the top room is my favourite!
My St Osyth Priory Wedding Review
This venue is definitely becoming one of my favourites in Essex. I can sometimes be a bit wary of manor house wedding venues as they can be a bit controlling and it can affect the atmosphere of the day. But there’s a great, experienced team running this venue and they have a really lovely relaxed vibe. The setting is perfect and the buildings are a complete dream. Plus you are only minutes from the coast and surrounded by amazing countryside.
St Osyth Priory is for you if:
- You’re a fan of a more traditional wedding but still want a relaxed atmosphere
- You want accommodation on site for you and your guests. There’s a range of options, the main house plus separate cottages and now the gatehouse has rooms available
- You love gardens and outside space
- You want somewhere close to London and the coast but with a rural feel
- You want to have a wedding that feels luxurious and special
- You’d quite like to feel like you’re in an English novel
- You want high end but not stuffy
