Osea Island

If you’re looking for a unique and luxurious wedding venue, then this is a dream. Only an hour from London, Osea Island is hidden off the Essex coast and you have full use of the island for your wedding weekend.

It feels a million miles away from the rest of the Essex Coast. The only way in or out is via the causeway, which is only accessible during low tide, or boat. It means everything about your stay here will feel exclusive and completely separate from the ‘real’ world. It’s true escapism.

Osea Island Highlights

  • A real escapists dream
  • Perfect for sea lovers, surrounded by the Blackwater Estuary

  • A choice of venues and options from industrial barns to outdoors

The wedding destination for dreamers

There is so much to love about Osea Island. From the drive up the bumpy causeway, to the Hamptons-esque decor in all the buildings, the yellow bikes that you can cycle around on and the numerous fun ‘venues’. This is a wedding venue unlike any other.

Once you set foot on the island you feel instantly relaxed. Surrounded by views of the sea there is lots to explore and it feels like a different world from the one you left behind.

You and all your guests can fully immerse themselves in your wedding weekend. Barbeques on the beach, or maybe a band at the Shack, swimming in the saltwater pool, or perhaps a canoe around the island. This is way more than just a wedding ‘day’ You can all lose yourselves in the adventure.

The Wedding Venues

There are a few different ‘area’s you can choose to use for your wedding.

Osea Island Wedding

The Bomb Factory

A former bomb making warehouse. This venue will easily hold your 150 guests and provides the perfect space for a great party with brilliant acoustics.

Osea Island Wedding

The Captains House

A beautiful house overlooking the Blackwater estuary and a gazebo which means you can get married outside. The view is magical. I always think the blues of the Blackwater are so unique and you get an uninterrupted panorama of it all whilst your ceremony happens.

Osea Island Wedding

The Shack

A quirky space, perfect for breakfast and lunches with everyone, or as an indoor / outdoor party space. This one definitely gave me all the festival vibes. Something a little bit wild about this spot.

The Power House

All the vibes of a New York loft apartment. A real blank canvas to add your style to. High ceilings and white painted rustic brick walls.

Information about Osea Island

The island is 1.5km squared and has a really interesting history, from Viking burial grounds to playing host to lots of artists. Owned by music producer Nigel Frieda, it has it’s own recording studio.

However, personally I think the island’s charm as a wedding venue lies in how laid back it is there. You really do feel immersed in nature, with amazing views all around you. Everyone crusing around on the bikes really helps add to the laid back feel.

The decor in the accomodation is really well thought through too. There are so many little details, from the crockery to magazines that help you feel like you in a different place, hundreds of miles from Essex.

Being on an island means you do not have the noise restrictions that most wedding venues have either, which means you can definitely go all out on the party.

The logistics can feel overwhelming as you are limited to access by the tide, unless you go on the boat. But I think that actually helps bring everyone together for the wedding. It also means it feels more like a holiday.

I also love that you have such a wide choice of options as to the look and feel of your wedding there. All the different spots and venues around the island have a different vibe and you can have a wedding that suits your personalities and doesn’t feel like anyone elses.

Booking suppliers with experience of the island will really help in this scenario too. The caterers there – Gather and Feast – are my absolute favourites – so you’re in safe hands there!

You also have all the amazing accommodation on site too so it’s easy for guests to stay and really immerse themselves in your wedding.
