Newborn Photography Essex
I love photographing newborns, all that incredible magic that exists in families as they hold their newest addition in their arms. It’s such an privilege to capture that for people. The special thing with newborns is that, that time really is so fleeting. One minute they are a tiny, scrunched up bundle in your arms. The next they are running round your house, destroying everything in sight. Once that newborn phase is over, it’s so hard to remember what they were like at that time. I can hardly remember what it was like to hold my boys like that, then I see photos of them when they were dinky and all those feelings come flooding back. That’s why I take a documentary approach to my newborn photography. I want you to remember not just what your baby looked like, but what you looked like as parents, the little things you used to do together, the way dad used to sit in his special chair singing your little one to sleep, the way your baby fell asleep on mum’s chest. You see those photos and you see that strength of love that bonded you all together, you remember that smell of their newborn baby head. Those, I think, are the things that are really important. I even love to capture some of the house where you live, if you ever move, it’s so nice for you, and your kids to remember that time in your lives, the complete story of what happened.
Newborn studio photo shoots never have the same appeal to me, a plain backdrop, or some token prop, what does that mean? There’s some great photographers out there who really embrace that style and do it really well. But to me that isn’t personal, where’s the story, the uniqueness? What will your kids feel when they see these growing up? I want your photos to mean than the single image, I want them to be a gateway to the whole story.
Photographing this family, with their first newborn was so much fun, they worked so well together as parents and it was just a joy to see. I loved that we got the dog in too. More pets in your photoshoots please!
