Where does my photoshoot take place?

Family photoshoots normally take place at your home and then we’ll head out to a nice outdoor location close by or we can just meet somewhere and spend our entire time out. I always think it’s good to include a place that is personal to you, so that could be a favourite place you go for walks, a local park, or even just the fields behind your house. I am also happy to photograph you if you are here on holiday.

What should I wear?

Your photoshoot is all about capturing your life as it really is, but I understand that most people like to feel good when their having their photos taken, and that normally means wearing something you love. For women and girls hair down is great, but if that’s not how you like it then please don’t change for your photoshoot.  I always say please avoid big slogans, tops with striking graphics on, big branded tops etc.  as these can be distracting and white items of clothing are also often hard to work with in full sun too so if possible avoid those too.  It’s also a good idea not to be too matchy matchy – you’re probably just going to end up looking like a cult if you’re all in the same coloured clothes! Really your photoshoot is all about capturing your family’s unique personality, if you try too hard to make it into something styled and like someone else’s photoshoot you’ll be losing the beauty of this style of photography. So please, keep it natural but wear what makes you feel at your best – unless it’s a massive Frozen t-shirt!

What happens if it’s raining?

If we’ve scheduled an outdoor shoot and we have heavy rain we can reschedule.  I rarely take on more than one shoot in a day, so there is often some flexibility on the day, if this isn’t possible for you then we can change to another day. I do not offer refunds for a shoot cancelled due to poor weather, but I’m always happy to reschedule.  If there is light rain I am happy to still continue the photoshoot, this can often be a fun way to capture children having fun outside, it’s rare I meet a child who doesn’t enjoy getting wet and muddy! And these can make for beautiful photographs.

What happens if my child is ill, or we have to cancel?

As a mum I totally understand that life doesn’t always go to plan!  I am happy to reschedule shoots due to illness etc., I do not offer deposit refunds in this situation but will re-book you into another time to suit you.

I have used another photographer in the past but the cost of prints afterwards was really high, I’m worried I won’t be able to afford to own my photos after the shoot!

I’m very concious that some photographers charge very high prices for printed products.  My complete session package includes all your edited files provided to you on a USB, so you can print your own images if you wish. However, I always encourage people to use a professional printer, rather than a high street one.  As such I try my best to make sure there are a range of products which are affordable, whilst still maintaining my high standard for print.  I am happy to show you some example prices before you book with me.  You can purchase 6×4″ prints from just £4 (min. order £25) and I will always work with you to get the products you want for your home within a budget you can afford.  I also understand this can be a large investment for some families and am willing to discuss part payments for larger orders.

Can I have my files on a USB?

Yes, if you’ve purchased the Complete or Story session packages, all your final files are included on a USB.  They are also available as a download if that is easier for you.

Do you have backdrops we could use?

This is not my style of photography for family shoots.  I’m passionate about creating natural and emotional photographs that capture real moments, I don’t feel that you can really do that in front of a large roll of paper.  There are plenty of photographers out there who are great at doing posed, studio shots, I can point you in their direction if you’d rather that style of shoot.
