Barnston Lodge

What an absolutely delightful wedding venue Barnston Lodge is! This day was pure magic. Although this is a wedding venue it’s also Alex’s family home where she grew up and now part runs with her mum, so this was incredibly personal to them both. What a win when you have a home that’s a wedding venue!!

Tucked away in the Essex countryside Barnston is surrounded by fields and has a quaint church within walking distance. The gardens are beautiful and this is where you have the marquee. You still have lots of space on the lawn for guests to gather and the outside of the house is yours to use too. There’s a lake here and lots of great photo opportunities. There’s even a quaint little room with sofas and plenty of tea on tap!

The family are also incredibly lovely and great fun, which makes so much difference when you are booking a venue. Always go with the nice ones!

Who would this wedding venue suit?

Barnston Lodge is perfect for couples who love the countryside and want a relaxed but special wedding. It’s a marquee venue essentially but as it’s also in the grounds of the family home so you have that lovely, personal feel. The family behind the scenes are extremely lovely and will really put you at ease, whilst also caring about your wedding. You’re not just one on a conveyor belt of weddings and it’s not overly regimented, like some ‘family home’ venues. The gardens and surrounding fields are gorgeous too and you feel very secluded despite being in the middle of Essex. This is also a perfect venue if you are planning a church wedding as you can literally just walk to the lovely church a few metres away.

Location

Barnston is very well connected, close to Stansted airport (even if your guests aren’t flying in it’s still useful to have the train and coach there) and close to the A120 which means guests from London will find it easy to get to. There’s lots of accommodation close by too, which again is important when planning your wedding.

My review of Barnston Lodge

I would absolutely recommend this venue for anyone looking to do a marquee or tipi wedding in Essex. They are honestly such a lovely team and they will make your day as wonderful as can be. Whilst you have to source the marquee etc the team will help you with all that and have some lovely contacts, having hosted plenty of weddings there, including their own family’s they really know about the things that matter and aren’t trying to push things onto you that aren’t you! Sometimes wedding venues can be so salesy with all the upsells but finding a decent place to hold a marquee wedding can be tricky if you don’t have the room to DIY it. Barnston is the perfect balance between all of that. A beautiful setting , a supportive team, and the ability to have a marquee wedding in your own style.
